Helping children lead active lives
WHO WE ARE
For 50 years Les Mills has been making the world a fitter place. Since the early 1980s, Les Mills has created scientifically backed group fitness classes to help millions of people across the world achieve their health and fitness goals.
However, with the global increase in inactivity and obesity among young people in recent years, many children do not have the opportunity to grow up healthy, fit and happy. We felt it was vital that children were given the chance to learn about, be inspired by, and experience physical activity so that they could live happier, healthier lives. To help achieve this, Les Mills Fund for Children was created in 2014. LMFC is a charitable fund that operates under DM Thomas Foundation for Young People.
"We want to create a fitter, healthier planet"
WHAT DO WE DO?
LMFC works with charities, organisations and projects which share our values and vision to help children lead more active lives. Our dedicated team of supporters carry out a range of charitable work to raise money to fund these projects.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
At the forefront of creating a global fitness community for 50 years, Les Mills has a strong following which includes Trainers, Instructors, fitness enthusiasts and general consumers. With support from our extensive community, we are able to raise funds through events, targeted direct mail, licensed products, services and online activities. We have successfully built a loyal and responsive community of supporters who feel involved in what we do. As we receive no funding from the government or statutory bodies it is vital that we continue to develop all of these sources.
HOW DO WE USE THE FUNDS?
We award these funds as grants to organisations who we believe will do their most to improve the education and physical and emotional wellbeing of children.
Charities and individual projects are invited to apply for grants from LMFC to fund their projects heling children lead more active lives. Our Advisory Committee (AC) meets every three months and comprises of senior Les Mills executives and independent experts in the fields of education, health and fitness. The AC evaluates the proposals and advises the board on the most appropriate areas for support. Once the AC has graded the proposals we fund as many of the projects which achieve the highest scores as possible.
All operating costs of LMFC are funded by Les Mills UK. This means that every net pound raised goes directly to good causes.
HOW ARE WE GOVERNED?
LMFC is operated by DM Thomas Foundation for Young People which is overseen by seven trustees and operated by an executive office. The Foundation manages the distribution of funds to ensure we meet all legal requirements. DM Thomas Foundation for Young People is a registered charity No. 1084220 (England & Wales), SC038995 (Scotland), 20101688 (Ireland), RSIN 823764199.
An Advisory Committee considers applications for charity grant funding and comprises of senior Les Mills executives and independent experts in the fields of education, health and fitness. Grants are reviewed on a quarterly basis when the AC meets.
